Tom West Writer and Author of “The Most Interesting Man You Have Never Met” and “On The Right Side of The Road”
Join the author, Tom West, as he recounts his fascinating life. A risk taker, entrepreneur, steadfast banker, blackjack dealer and a solid government bureaucrat.
The careers zig and zag. As a young man, he works with his father as a true American cowboy in Texas. In fact, on a trip to Los Angeles to visit family, he is repeatedly mistaken for a famous actor and asked for his autograph. As a Las Vegas blackjack dealer, we find him meeting one celebrity after another. Most are seeking to maintain anonymity and he uses his charisma and humor to ensure they have a quiet, uninterrupted time at his table.

Your life story reads like America’s handshake. I started reading The Most Interesting Man You Have Never Met and immediately thought – yep, the title undersells it. Cowboy, banker, blackjack dealer, government man? That’s not a memoir, that’s a full-season Netflix pitch. The way you write it, straightforward, funny, and just a touch nostalgic, feels like sitting across from a guy who’s seen it all and still believes a handshake means something. High energy from beginning to end. Such a fun book to read! Definitely an interesting read written by an amazing man. Glad to call him a friend. Can’t wait to read his second book: On The Right Side of the Road. DynamiteKat (reviewed September, 2025)

On The Right Side of The Road
Tom West, the author of “The Most Interesting Man You Have Never Met” now takes you along on his adventures, and that of his sometime sidekick, Le Roy, and yes often times challenges, of driving an over-the-road big truck. This entertaining story covers his travels and as they cover 46 of the 48 lower states from the East coast to the West coast and places in between, and navigate through all of the big cities, and some of the wildest backroads in the country.
Starting out his truck driver career during his high school years, he recalls hauling cattle, groceries, frozen foods, veggies of all kinds, and everything in between. But trucking was not his only calling in life. From being a farmer, rancher and cowboy to working in the oilfield, to a career as a vice president in banks and finally a card dealer in Las Vegas. And yet, he would turn to his driving skills that he learned early in life to restore his self-confidence and maintain his sanity.
And so, this story, some of which was written thirty years ago from a diary kept while driving for two different trucking companies, is written as it happened. But being southern, some of the facts could have gotten bigger in the rendition. Sometimes he may lean to the left, sometimes to the right, but he believes, at least in this country, it is better to drive “On The Right Side Of The Road.”
